Every year, the Southwestern Indiana Chapter of the American Red Cross reaches out to hundreds of disaster victims with emergency assistance. Whether it is a fire that destroys a home or a tornado that devastates a community, the Red Cross will be there for those in need providing various forms of disaster relief including shelter, food, health and mental health counseling services. |
| |
- Your local Red Cross has teams of on-call volunteers who respond 24 hours a day to meet the psychological and physical needs of local disaster victims.
- The core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to victims to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
- During a disaster situation, the Red Cross also feeds emergency workers, handles inquires from concerned family members outside the disaster area, provides blood and blood products to disaster victims and helps those affected by disaster to access other available resources.
- Your local Red Cross helps people lessen the impact of disasters through disaster preparedness education (providing the community with information on how to prevent, prepare for and respond to disaster) and disaster mitigation education (teaching the community how to take actions prior to disaster to reduce loss).
- All disaster assistance is free, made possible by the generous contributions of time and money from the American people. You can help the victims of disaster by making a contribution to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which allows the Red Cross to respond to disasters anytime, anywhere.
- In addition to making a financial contribution, you can also help victims of disaster by becoming a Red Cross volunteer. Call the Southwestern Indiana Chapter of the American Red Cross at 812/471-7200 to learn more.
